Serving up steam on a plate
9 Oct 2000
A range of steam heaters from Alfa Laval Thermal Division makes use of the company's well-established design of plate heat exchangers. The TS-M series features a special plate geometry, stainless steel plates and special gaskets capable of operating at temperatures up to 180¡C - a combination said to be ideal for industrial steam use.
Thanks to their high thermal efficiency, the TS-M exchangers can also be sized to operate at low condensation temperatures with little or insignificant amounts of flash steam being generated. There is therefore no energy loss through ventilating flash steam and no need for a separate sub-cooler or flash steam recovery system.
Alfa Laval says that, as with all plate heat exchangers, the TS-Ms respond almost instantly to temperature change. Recently the company has formed an alliance with steam specialist Spirax Sarco to develop and market products for steam heating systems. Spirax Sarco has used the TS-M's instant response capabilities to good effect in a range of packaged steam heater solutions. These incorporate modern condensate removal equipment and an automatic temperature control system to provide accurate and uniform water heating.
