Swedish belt beats conveyors
9 Oct 2000
An award-winning design from Swedish company Sicon Roulunds could put paid to all the dust and spillage problems associated with traditional open belt conveyors. As shown here, the system is based on a rubber belt that folds up to form a tear-drop shaped bag that contains the conveyed product. The material being transported is enclosed, keeping dust and spillages to a minimum, and allowing the handling of hazardous products with less risk to the environment and plant operators.
The flexible design can negotiate sharp curves, use steeper angles and have multiple loading and unloading points - all with one single belt without any transfer points.
According to Matts BŒdholm, maintenance manager of the Saint Gobain company Isover Gullfiber, 'we have saved about SEK 2million (£150 000) a year by replacing our previous pneumatic conveying system with a Sicon conveyor for transporting our raw materials.' Most of the savings came from reduced maintenance and energy costs.
