Tekleen helps Scapa flow
22 Aug 2000
Cable compound manufacturer Scapa Polymerics uses water drawn from its on-site cooling towers in Openshaw, Manchester, as process water to cool its compounding machinery. However, the quality of the water was so poor that the machinery's cooling systems were completely clogged within a week, leading to around 12 hours lost production every week.
Site space limitations ruled out sand filters so the company opted for three Tekleen self-cleaning water filters instead. An 80 per cent flow improvement was immediately seen with 300micron filters. A cleaning sequence on each Tekleen lasts only 15 seconds and the outlet flow is not stopped during the cleaning cycle. Installation of further filters to clean internal process water is being considered.
