UV could crack crypto problem
22 Aug 2000
Independent tests carried out in the US by Clancy Environmental Consultants have shown that ultraviolet technology is highly effective at destroying the water-borne parasite Cryptosporidium parvum. `Crypto' oocysts are impervious to chlorine disinfection and the most effective form of control to date has been filtration.
Commissioned by UV specialist Hanovia, the tests on the company's UVP61 system showed at least a 4.4 log oocysts inactivation at all UV doses tested. Hanovia says the results are particularly significant in light of the new UK Drinking Water Inspectorate regulations.
