Colt destroys solvent emissions
22 Aug 2000
Colt International has supplied and installed a Thermocat catalytic oxidation system to abate solvent-based VOC emissions from Abrapower's factory in Staffordshire, a manufacturer of foam based sanding blocks. During production solvent-based adhesives are used to apply grit to the blocks but ethyl acetate and acetone are produced. The catalytic oxidation system reduces levels of solvents to the atmosphere in line with UK and European guidelines. The technology allows VOC destruction to occur at much lower temperatures (290 degrees C) when compared with direct burner systems (850 degrees C). The lower thermal mass of a catalytic oxidiser enables fast start-up and shut down of the plant and a quicker response to changing process conditions.
