AMEC subsidiary upgrades in Canada
22 Aug 2000
AMEC's subsidiary, Agra Birwelco, has been awarded $26million in contracts, including managing the design, engineering, procurement and delivery of four fired heaters and two convection sections for the Scotford upgrader in Alberta, Canada.
The upgrader will be constructed next to Shell Canada's existing Scotford refinery. The fired heaters assist in the processing of bitumen from the Muskeg River Mine into premium synthetic crude oils.
Agra Birwelco will begin work immediately on two convection sections for the upgrader's hydrogen plant steam/methane reforming furnaces.
Further contracts include installing two atmospheric and two vacuum furnaces for the upgrader, part of the $3.5billion (Can) Athabasca Oil Sands project owned by joint venture partners, Shell Canada, Chevron Canada Resources and Western Oil Sands.
