Rockwell and E + H to team up
23 Feb 2005
Rockwell Automation and Endress + Hauser have joined forces to develop new methods of configuring process instrumentation.
The companies will use technologies such as Foundation Fieldbus and the HART protocol to ally E+H's devices with Allen-Bradley Logix controllers and RSLogix 5000 software.
The aim of the project is to simplify the way customers use devices, the company says. It will also allow Rockwell to use E+H's FieldCare software to configure, diagnose and integrate a wide range of process devices into its RSMACC suite of asset management software.
The collaboration represents part of a move for Rockwell into the hybrid process automation sector, which will also see it join the Field Device Tool/Device Tool Manager (FDT/DTM) joint interest group. This body aims to further the use of FDT as a configuration and data management interface for text- and graphically-based process device profile.
'This participation complements our leadership in the Fieldbus Foundation as we help drive standards that cover the broadest possible range of process devices,' comments Ken Deken, vice-president and general manager for the Logix NetLinx business. 'We see this as a means to help the customer more easily manage the wide range of critical and complex process devices.'
