The Linde Group is to construct two large polyethylene plants in Al Jubail, a centre of petrochemical development in Saudi Arabia.
The project was commissioned by a consortium led by Saudi Basic Industrial Cororqation (SABIC) including investors from Japan. The order is worth approximately 500 million Euros.
Both the turnkey plants will be constructed by Linde-KCA-Dresden and will have an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons of polyethylene. They are scheduled to start operation in the first half of 2008.
Additionally, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Linde have signed a 70 million Euro deal for the delivery of one of the worldwide largest air separation plants. The plant, with a capacity of 108,000 cubic meters of oxygen, will supply a new methanol plant also located in Al Jubail.
Alongside China, the Gulf region – with the strong growth of its oil and gas industry – currently represents the most important market for air separation installations. In this region alone, Linde has supplied air separation plants worth over 280 million Euros in the past three years.
Linde successfully completed and put into operation a turnkey air separation plant, (with a capacity of 90,000 cubic meters of oxygen per hour), at the Al Jubail site at the start of the year.
