Alcan acquires Propack

Alcan announced yesterday that it has acquired the remaining 35 percent stake of Propack, the company's Chinese subsidiary specialised in food and pharmaceutical packaging. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Propack became part of Alcan as a result of the acquisition of VAW Flexpac in May 2003. With 2004 sales of $90 million, the company holds a leading position in the Chinese flexible packaging market, serving international and local customers. It employs 1,200 people, with manufacturing sites in Beijing, Jiangyin, Huizhou and Chengdu.

In Asia, Alcan Packaging operates 12 plants in five countries with more than 5,000 employees.
