DuPont names Siemens, Honeywell as preferred DCS suppliers

Atlanta, Georgia — DuPont has selected Siemens Energy & Automation Inc. as one of two “guidelined” suppliers of distributed control systems. The “global alliance” covers distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC) and PLC-based process control systems, said Siemens.

The alliance also expands DuPont’s acceptance of Siemens’ SIMATIC PCS 7 and other process control products,” according to a Siemens press statement.

Honeywell has been named as DuPont’s other preferred DCS supplier, a Honeywell spokeswoman confirmed: "DuPont recently decided to narrow its preferred automation suppliers down to two; those suppliers are Honeywell and Siemens.” However, no further details were available from Honeywell.

DuPont selected Siemens based on a Six Sigma project that evaluated technology, five-year life-cycle costs and long-term benefits to DuPont, according to Dennis Inverso, DuPont alliance manager.

“Siemens distributed control systems, the latest addition to the list of Siemens products used by DuPont, provides an integrated approach that most effectively meets DuPont’s changing business needs,” commented Inverso — in Siemens’ statement.

Siemens also cited scalability and safety integration capabilities of process control products as well as migration strategy and legacy product support, as key considerations for DuPont.
