Korean ethylene plant contract

St Neots, UK — Korean petrochemical company Yeochun NCC Co. Ltd (YNCC) is to upgrade the performance of a major ethylene plant by installing ABB’s 800xA process control and safety system.

The contract covers three 800xA systems for the 500-kilotonne-per-annum ethylene plant; each comprising 28 process operation and engineering stations, 14 AC800M controllers and two AC800M Hi controllers for safety applications.

Over 11,400 I/O points are involved, with many signals utilising HART communication, which will enable Yeochun to apply inbuilt 800A HART Device Management capabilities to optimise plant maintenance.

In selecting a system, Yoechun’s requirements included ensuring that the engineering could be simplified and made consistent as well as reduced commissioning costs.

According to ABB, its system provides Yeochun with integrated control, safety, advanced process/interlock visibility via the DCS system’s Aspect Object technology and ABB Device Library. The latter feature is designed to provide best practice in device engineering and control and can automatically display any interlocks that could delay production.
