Ineos biodiesel plant for Belgium
11 Dec 2006
The planned 500 kilotonnes-per-annum facility is due to come on stream by early 2009. It will have the capability to supply biodiesel to the entire Belgian biofuels market as well as supplying across Europe, the company said 11 Dec.
According to Ineos, the facility will also use glycerine as a bi-product of biodiesel production to stimulate the development of glycerine technology at the site. The company said it also expects synergies from a parallel third-party investment in a new vegetable oil extraction facility in the area.
“The Antwerp site is core to our strategy and will be the centre from where we will lead our growth in biodiesel across the Continent,” said Harry Deans, CEO of Ineos Enterprises. “Our aim is to become the first truly pan European supplier of biodiesel, the first part of which will be to achieve at least 2 million tonnes of biodiesel output by 2012.”
