UK turbo-generator for Portugal biomass power plant
18 Dec 2006
Peterborough, UK -- Portuguese company Energetus has placed a £2-million order with Peter Brotherhood Ltd to design and manufacture a 10.75MW turbo-generator set for a new biomass-fired power plant.
The turbo-generator set will comprise a multi-stage steam turbine and gearbox mounted on a common bedplate, which incorporates a complete oil system and a generator. A control system will also be supplied as part of the package.
The complete turbine and control system will be tested on steam at Peter Brotherhoods' engineering facility prior to delivery in June 2007, according to Peterborough-based company.
The Central Biomassa Terras de Santa Maria, which is being built on the outskirts of Aveiro, Portugal, will generate electricity from forest materials, including cork powder and forest residue - the removal of which helps to reduce the risk of forest fire.
