Easyfairs admits Solids disappointment

SHAPA members give mixed reaction to proposals for staging of next event
Lichfield, UK – Attendance figures for the recent Solids show in Coventry, were “disappointing,” Peter Heath of organisers Easyfairs said at the SHAPA (Solids Handling and Processing Association) general meeting, in Lichfield on 17 Jan.
This view was also prevalent among SHAPA members who attended or registered for the show, staged 1-2 Nov at the Ricoh Arena, according to survey findings presented by Heath. Some 51% of respondents gave their value-for-money rating for Solids as “Average”; 32% “Poor”; and just 16% “Good”. Likewise, when people were asked if they would attend a Solids 2008 event; 62% ticked “Perhaps”, 26% “No” and just 12% “Yes”.
Despite this, Heath said Easyfairs was proposing to co-locate the event with its Industrial Environment show at the NEC this October. However, this idea was again unpopular with delegates at the SHAPA meeting, though many still indicated that they might support a co-located event in 2008.
