New Shell innovation, technology leader

Rothwell, who will be based in Houston, will have global responsibility for identifying and leveraging innovation and chemicals technology across the Shell Group, including Shell Chemicals. He replaces Pieter Eijsberg, who has been appointed as general manager for the Shell Eastern Petrochemicals Complex in Singapore.
“I will be accountable for meeting the technology needs of Shell Chemicals, leveraging Shell Global Solutions’ chemical research and development capabilities … and contributing to the identification and assessment of longer-term group chemicals technology options,” Rothwell stated.
Rothwell joined the Shell Group in 1980 with a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His previous roles include head of strategy, planning and ventures for Shell Chemicals as well as several strategy, planning and business assignments at Shell offices in Houston.
