London -- Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co., part of Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC), has awarded two contracts for the construction of new Polypropylene (PP) and Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plants at its complex in Al-Jubail Industrial City. Samsung Engineering gained the contract for the construction of a 350 KTPA PP plant, with the other going to Simon Carves Ltd for a 300 KTPA LDPE plant, SABIC announced 30 Jan.
Saudi Kayan’s complex at Al-Jubail Industrial City is expected to come on stream in 2009 with an annual capacity of over 4 million tonnes of chemical products.
According to SABIC, the complex will produce specialised chemicals, such as aminoethanols, aminomethyls, and polycarbonate, in Saudi Arabia for the first time. This is in addition to ethylene, propylene, polypropylene, ethylene glycol, polyethylene and other products, which will provide wide opportunities for downstream industries, the company added.
