Project to create one of the world's largest integrated refining and petchem complexes in Saudi Arabia
Tokyo -- Yokogawa Electric Corp. has won an order to supply plant control systems for the Rabigh Project, which is constructing one of the world's largest integrated refining and petrochemical complexes in Saudi Arabia.
The project on the Red Sea coast is being managed by PETRORabigh (Rabigh Refining & Petrochemical Co.) -- a JV between the Saudi Arabian Oil Co. and Sumitomo Chemical Co. Ltd.
According to Yokogawa, this is its largest ever order for a single project. Its remit includes upgrading the control systems at the existing refinery and providing control systems for the new petrochemical plants.
Due for completion in the second half of 2008, the project involves enhancing an existing oil refinery at Rabigh and constructing a petrochemical complex to produce 1300 kilotonnes per annum of ethylene and 2400 ktpa of petrochemical derivatives such as polyethylene and polypropylene.
