Safety Edges for Harsh Environments

Motion29 are launching the new design of safety edge said to be suitable for use in areas of high humidity and moisture. Manufactured by Bircher Reglomat the new safety edge uses Bircher’s existing wide range of rubber profiles with a new internal contact strip. Whereas the existing range uses a nickel plated bronze contact, the new contact strip is moulded from conductive rubber with integrated tinsel and Kevlar cords for improved conduction and strain relief within a protective EPDM outer jacket. No only does this improve its chemical resistance, it is said to be able to withstand the rigors of high humidity applications compared to existing solutions.

Due to the construction of the new contact strip it is said to be able to withstand the effects of a high impact as there are no metals parts that can be damaged resulting in early failure to the sensing edge. The contact strip known as ENT-R is supplied in 25 or 50 metre rolls and is compatible with Bircher’s existing Click-Line and Cover-Line safety edges and the ES series of switching units to provide a Category 3 safety solution for many industrial machines, automatic gates and doors as well as other applications such as automatic car washes.

The Click-Line range of profiles provides safety edge heights from 42 to 77mm where as the Cover-Line 55 and 80mm. Both can be supplied with a wide choice of terminating resistor values and varying cable lengths from 0.5 to 10m. In addition to supplying the components for self assembly of the safety edges, Motion29 are able to manufacture edges to length and offer additional services such as mitred joints and special cables to ensure the product is exactly right for the application.
