Safety Mats for Operator Protection.

Bircher Reglomat’s range of safety mats are said to be ideally suited for use with automatic woodworking machines due to their high sensitivity and robust construction. Distributed in UK and Ireland by Motion29 Limited the safety mats are available in different shapes and designs. The system is claimed to be simple to install and is flexible with regard to the area to be protected through the wide choice of mat sizes and mounting accessories, such as ramp rail and connecting strips.

The Bircher Reglomat safety mats operate by detecting people or objects within a defined area, serving to safeguard danger zones and thereby provide protection for operators. They use an electrical contact system as found in Bircher’s safety edges to detect when anyone steps on to the mat, thereby providing protection for people in danger zones around industrial plant and machinery.

This robust PUR mat is said to offer good resistance to fork lift traffic, airborne dust or surface contamination and is waterproof up to IP67. The button design of the mat provides a clearly visible detection surface, so identifying the danger zone to the operator. By grouping the mats, different zones can be created allowing the operators into safe areas and keeping them clear of the danger area.

The mats correspond to safety category 3 as defined by standard EN954-1 and have type approval in accordance with standard EN 1760-1 and when used with a category 3 safety relay from Bircher’s ESD3 range provide a complete safety solution suitable for many industrial applications.
