Tomoe valves for Saudi desalination plant

Plant will handle a daily capacity of 990,000 tonnes of water and will supply drinking water and electricity power to the holy Islam cities of Mecca and Medina.
Tokyo – Tomoe Valve Ltd is to supply butterfly valves to phase three of Saudi Electric Co.’s Shuaibah project to build a 194-MIGD desalination plant, together with three 917MW thermal power plants on a site 110km south of Jeddah. Tomoe Japan selected Rotork Fluid Systems, Japan (RFS) as its valve actuator partner for this project.
The desalination plant being constructed by contractor Doosan, will handle a daily capacity of 990,000 tonnes of water and will supply drinking water and electricity power to the holy Islam cities of Mecca and Medina.
Under the contract, Tomoe is supplying 139 of its high performance butterfly valves, ranging from 12 inches up to 150 inches in size. The valves will be fitted with Rotork CP and GP pneumatic actuators.
The contract was won “following a demanding bidding process with constantly evolving specifications and requirements,” according to a Tomoe statement.
