Unipol PP technology for new 300-ktpa polypropylene facility at the Shenhua Baotou coal-to-olefin complex
Midland, Michigan -- Chinese coal-to-chemicals/polymers company Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemicals Co. has selected Unipol PP Technology from Dow for its new 300-ktpa polypropylene (PP) facility to be constructed at the Shenhua Baotou Coal-to-Olefin complex in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.
Due for startup in 2010, the Shenhua Baotou plant will be the 47th production line to use Dow’s gas-phase polypropylene process. Aker Kvaerner, which has collaborated with Dow on numerous Unipol PP lines around the world, will prepare the basic engineering design and provide technical advisory services for the unit.
According to Dow, the Unipol system’s fluidized-bed reactors and SHAC Catalyst systems offer the flexibility to produce homopolymers, random copolymers and impact copolymers for various PP grades. The system was recently chosen by China Datang Corp. for its 500-ktpa plant and by PetroChina GuangXi for a new 200-ktpa facility.
