TOTAL migrates to single control system at UK refinery
5 Jul 2007
The project involves the integration and centralisation of various control and monitoring systems used at the Lindsey Oil Refinery into a single process automation system. The upgrade is to provide plant operators with full view and control over the operations and control of safety, alarm management and environmental compliance.
At the outset of the project, TOTAL had concerns over how to migrate to the new system without incurring downtime, according to Don Boylen, Project Manager, TOTAL Lindsey Oil Refinery, commenting in a 5 July Honeywell statement.
However, said Boylen, “Honeywell’s implementation plan ensures a smooth transition to the new system with no disruption to our operations … the integrated project team approach has proved successful”.
The project follows an earlier assignment in which Honeywell provided TOTAL with an upgrade path of its systems. According to Honeywell, the latest modernisation will enable TOTAL to better address processing issues, such as excess emissions and operational inefficiencies.
TOTAL’s business objectives for this project ranged from enhancing Abnormal Situation Management to strengthening environmental compliance, said Paul Orzeske, vice president and general manager for Honeywell Process Solutions’ EMEA region. “Although the upgrade and integration work has been extensive, the project is progressing smoothly and we are well on our way to enabling TOTAL to meet its objectives.”
