On-site sodium hypochlorite generating system for Irish wastewater plant
4 Feb 2008
Birmingham, UK – Irish water and wastewater treatment company Response Engineering Ltd has selected two ClorTec on-site sodium hypochlorite generating systems from Severn Trent Services for installation at the Saggart Wastewater Treatment Works located on the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland. The ClorTec CT-300s units can each generate 135 kilograms per day of chlorine equivalent.
Severn Trent Services introduced the on-site generation system as a cost effective, reliable and economical disinfection method, 20 years ago, and has since installed around 3,000 ClorTec systems worldwide. By producing sodium hypochlorite on demand, the technology alleviates the problem of chlorate by-product generation that typically results from the storage of bulk sodium hypochlorite. The system also eliminates the potential risk of transporting chlorine gas as well as storing it at the plant site.
ClorTec systems range from 2.7 to 1,360+ kg/day or 6 to 3,000+ lb/day, generating a 0.8% sodium hypochlorite solution by combining three common consumables – salt, water and electricity – to produce a chlorine equivalent.
