LyondellBasell completes HACCP certification at EU plants
12 May 2008
Rotterdam, Netherlands - LyondellBasell Industries has completed HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certification of its management systems at its monopropylene glycol (MPG-USP/EP) plants in Fos-sur-Mer, France, and Botlek, The Netherlands. HACCP focuses on preventing food safety hazards, covering the entire process from raw material procurement, manufacturing, storage, handling and distribution to consumption of the finished product.
LyondellBasell's MPG-USP/EP also complies with the current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), according to Patrick Quarles, senior vice president Propylene Oxide & Derivatives, Chemicals at LyondellBasell. This, he said, is a prerequisite and an essential foundation for HACCP.
"With HACCP, we go one step farther and stand behind our management systems by committing to certify them. As a member of the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC), we are committed to food safety and the principles of Responsible Care," said Quarles.
MPG USP/EP is used as a humectant and emulsifier in the production of food additives, personal care products and other everyday items. It is also used as an excipient (inactive ingredient) in pharmaceutical products.
