EngTech registrations soar as SOE champions technicians

London - For the third year running, the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE) has led the field in getting its members registered at EngTech (Engineering Technician) level, according to the Engineering Council UK's annual professional registration results.
The society, which represents around 17,000 engineering professionals from the transport, plant and engineer surveying sectors, also topped the list of engineering institutions in registering Incorporated Engineers (IEng).
SOE registered nearly 300% more EngTechs during 2008 than any other organisation, an achievement SOE chief executive Nick Jones believes is due to the Society’s commitment to developing apprentices into competent and skilled engineers.
“SOE prides itself on nourishing the careers of engineering professionals and these results prove a determination on our part to support engineers from the beginning of their career,” said Jones.
Business development manager Will Reeves added: “Many of SOE’s industry and academic partners are reaping the rewards of having their engineers associated with SOE ... Our members’ achievement in attaining EngTech and IEng status is a tribute to their professionalism from the workshop to the boardroom.”
