New user group to improve alarm systems in UK water companies
4 Feb 2009
London - WRc has launched the Water industry Alarm Systems Improvement Group (WASIG) which aims to improve the design, operation, maintenance and management of alarm systems. The initiative, it said, responds to a need for enhanced safety systems at water companies that are reducing site manning levels and move to more centralised management of operations.
According to WRc, the new group's work will initially focus on developing a more coherent and rigorous framework for alarm systems design and management. WASIG will collaborate with the Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association (EEMUA) to provide UK water industry input to the latest edition of publication 191 which is widely recognised as the leading benchmark of best practice in industrial alarm systems.
Companies participating in WASIG will be able to share engineering and operational experience and will be at the forefront of developing good industry practice, said WRc, a consultancy active in the water, waste and environment sectors.
