Duerr installs PLC system at Manchester jam factory

Manchester, UK - F. Duerr & Sons Ltd has added in a PLC system for its new jam cooking plant in Wythenshawe, Manchester. The system was installed Widnes-based industrial control firm, Denca Controls Ltd. is designed to enhance recipe management and facilitate better control of all operations from cooking through to the jar filling lines.
As part of the project, which embraced the use of Siemens S7 PLC, two I/O racks and integrated safety systems, Denca wrote and verified all necessary software, completed panel builds, installed all cabling and pneumatics, considered all aspects of sequencing and fully function-tested the new system. To minimise any impact on production of jams, marmalades and peanut butters, all work was completed during a scheduled plant shutdown for which stock levels were built up.
“As a result of the project, Duerr’s now enjoy considerably greater recipe control, enhanced recipe capability, real-time reporting and analysis as well as total product traceability throughout all cooking and filling stages,” according to Alan Brennan, Denca joint managing director.
