Hima-Sella plugs into Syngenta's Grangemouth expansion

Grangemouth, UK - Jacob's Engineering UK has awarded Hima-Sella a £40,000 contract to manufacture power & distribution panels for Syngenta. The agrichemicals major is expanding its Grangemouth manufacturing facility in Scotland over the next three years.
Syngenta is carrying out a £75-million investment programme at Grangemouth to increase production of Amistar azoxystrobin, an active ingredient for fungicides. The expansion, while will create 50 new jobs, is in response to increasing global food production.
Hima-Sella recently won a £300,000 contract from Jacobs for the manufacture of 12 open-framed instrument racks for a third Amistar production line (AZ3) for Syngenta. The systems integration company said it netted both contracts because of its experience of installing Emerson DeltaV equipment as well as its robust quality assurance, project management & documentation capabilities.
The instrument rack construction is based on an existing design used on two previous production lines (AZ1 & AZ2). Each instrument rack contains a 40-slot Emerson DeltaV DCS complete with SIS I/O for safety critical interlocks & Profibus communications.
Each DeltaV I/O module interfaces with the hazardous area instrumentation on the plant via MTL 4000 series I.S. barriers mounted on 8-way backplanes. The modular approach greatly simplifies future plant expansion by allowing new I/O to be introduced by plugging an I.S barrier into a backplane, which in turn is plugged into a DeltaV I/O module.
