Shells adds Yokogawa to MAC list
15 Feb 2010
London – Shell has selected Yokogawa Electric Corp. as a main automation contractor (MAC) for integrated production control and safety instrumented systems. The Global Framework Agreement (GFA) contract follows the annnouncement of a similar deal between Shell and Emerson last week.
Since last year, Shell has worked to reduce the number of equipment and systems suppliers for its plants, and has assessed and narrowed down the list of contractors that it works with in the control systems field. This is part of a Shell initiative to achieve top quartile performance across categories in support of its “More Upstream, Profitable Downstream” strategy.
Yokogawa’s contract includes ongoing maintenance of systems and the supply of new systems for both brownfield and greenfield projects. The vendor cited its delivery record to Shell, technology offerings, and health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) policy, as the main factors behind its MAC contract, adding that the win would encourage it to expand its control business worldwide.
