KSB pumps for Abu Dhabi
22 Feb 2010
Frankenthal, Germany – KSB AG has recently received an order for four large water pumps “in the million euro range” to be installed in the Shuweihat pump station in the Abu Dhabi emirate. Delivery is due for the beginning of 2011.
The new pump sets will enable the local water utility provider to extend its supply in the region. Its station currently houses ten pumps of the same type series are in operation which KSB delivered in 2003.
Each of the RDLO 600-1200 B pumps weighing around 20 tonnes will handle 5,746 cubic metres of water per hour at a head of 190 metres. To ensure optimum corrosion protection, the casings, impellers and shafts are made of duplex stainless steel. The pump sets’ hydraulic efficiency will be at least 87 percent.
Once complete, all four pump sets will be submitted to a so-called string test by specialists at a KSB factory. Unlike common practice with pumps of such size, the pumps will be tested using the original drive components instead of the test field motors.
The transformer and frequency inverter, as well as the motor belonging to the individual pump, heve therefore been set up to be tested as one complete unit, said the German pump maker.
