Newcastle, UK – Global engineering and construction provider Aker Solutions is looking to recruit up to 100 new staff in the Tees Valley, to service its rapidly growing customer base, according to regional development agency One North East.
Aker Solutions’ Stockton-based operation is serving growth in the power generation, nuclear decommissioning, water management, mining and metals, and oil, gas and process sectors.
The Stockton office has grown from about 300 to 600 staff and we are looking to add another 100 staff in the next 12 months, according to Doug Gordon, vice president finance, Europe, Middle East & Africa region with Aker Solutions’ Process and Construction business area.
“The variety of posts we have ranges from commercial and process engineers to planners and project controllers, we have about 24 different job types to fill,” commented Gordon.
Aker Solutions was one of about 35 firms exhibiting at the two-day employment and training event at Corus’ Teesside Cast Products plant earlier this month, which saw more than 1,030 Corus employees attend to learn more about employment and training opportunities.
“The event was very worthwhile and has resulted in the company receiving a number of interesting CVs from Corus employees,” said Margaret Mason, Aker Solutions HR advisor in Stockton. “These applicants are now being carefully considered as part of our recruitment activities.”
Many of the positions with Aker Solutions would be on a temporary basis at first with a view to making the positions permanent.
The firm is recruiting to meet the demands of its growing business portfolio, including UK nuclear decommissioning work to dispose of low level and intermediate waste, major engineering contracts with leading UK firms for new low carbon production plants and effluent treatment work with water companies.
One North East and the Government have pledged £60m to support the Tees Valley’s transition to low carbon and advanced manufacturing industries through the Tees Valley Industrial Programme.
