McCambridge pumps were eating all the pies

Blackburn, UK – McCambridge Foods Ltd, a Blackburn-based producer of mince pies, experienced problems with its pumps during a bumper pre-Christmas production run: a reduction in vacuum resulted in batches of pastry casings being pulled out of place or damaged.
In response, the company consulted Thorite, which recommended and installed three new vacuum pumps – PIAB’s P6010 Coax Technology units – to achieve a more powerful vacuum and better “hold” of the pie casings during production and improved quality control.
The PIAB P6010 provides up to 40% more flow than conventional vacuum pumps, while still reducing overall energy consumption, according to Clive Halliday, Thorite’s process & vacuum manager
“The durable, maintenance-free design makes it ideally suited for automated material handling, characterised by powerful, non-heat generating suction at extremely low feed pressures,” said Halliday.
“Additionally, the pump’s compact size makes it possible to mount closer to the point of suction, thus reducing compressed-air requirements and saving energy.”
