26 Apr 2010
London – AMEC has signed a major contract with EDF Group to support its Architect Engineering operation for the proposed delivery of four new EPR nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point and Sizewell in the UK. The contract will run for 11 years, with an option to extend for a further four.
Under the contract AMEC will work with EDF in France and the UK in the key areas of project management, engineering and construction management. It will also be responsible for assisting the EDF Group project management teams with engineering and site management activities, together with providing specific engineering studies for the non-nuclear sections of plant in the power stations.
The project will employ several thousand people onsite during the construction phase and many more offsite both in EDF and throughout the supply chain.
Humphrey Cadoux-Hudson, EDF Energy’s Managing Director Nuclear New Build, said: “The huge investment we are making to deliver new nuclear is good news for the UK supply chain and workers because it will create significant employment and business opportunities over the coming years.
