'Curvaceous' surfers prompt name change
1 May 2010
London – UK company Curvaceous Software Ltd has changed its name to PPCL. The new name replaces the Curvaceous brand in Europe and the C-Visual brand in the US, from May 2010. ’PPCL’ best represents the company moving forward while reflecting its heritage, a statement explained.
More to the point, however, was the fact that the Curvaceous websites were receiving hundreds of thousands of hits - many from people seeking (voluptuous) figures of a type not handled by the complex mathematical models behind the company’s geometric process control software.
Recently, the company’s business has increased onto the global scale, with new active agents in America and China. Local language and cultural differences, admitted company officials, meant that the word “Curvaceous” was regarded as not acceptable in a business environment.
Established as a commercial software provider in 1998, Curvaceous Software was an offshoot of Process Plant Computing Ltd, a consultancy operating in the area of process plant control, and formed by Dr Robin Brooks.
“Consolidating our worldwide activity under a single brand is the next step in our strategic growth plan,” said Brooks. “We believe our new brand will be well received and understood by our customers.”
