Cogent offers £650-per-woman training grant
17 May 2010
London – Process companies can receive up to £650 for the cost of training female employees under a new Cogent an initiative for the ’science-using’ industries. The Cogent SSC Women and Work Programme, it said, is intended to support the skills development of women, particularly into non-traditional technical roles.
The scheme is to encourage employers to review their skills development needs and identify any skills gaps or career progression opportunities among female staff. The grant, said Cogent, is not targeted at a particular qualification, but instead aims to raise companies’ competitiveness through developing the role of women in the workforce.
Employers will, however, be required to contribute 50% or more to the total costs of the project – both to the provision and via learner or mentor time– of which 15% must be in cash to a provider of the course. Cogent has a total of 100 grants to award and these will only be available to December 2010.
