Gas Data analysers aid Honduras biogas project
18 May 2010
London – Hand-held analysers from Gas Data have played a significant role on a biogas recovery and electricity generation project in Honduras. The devices were employed over nine months to check on methane-rich biogas being emitting into the atmosphere from eight open wastewater treatment lagoons.
Combusting the recovered methane saw the establishment of an anaerobic system – covered ponds and floating plastic membranes to capture the biogas, with an electricity generation unit comprising two 633 kW renewable biogas energy generation units.
For emergency reasons and for when the gas engines are not in operation, a flare was installed. This biogas capture and flaring system has a removal efficiency of 90%.
