Honeywell upgrade for Turkey's largest steel producer

London – Honeywell has been awarded a contract to modernise a key steel manufacturing plant operated by Turkey’s largest steel producer. Honeywell will implement a range of process automation solutions and services at Erdemir Iron and Steel Co.’s Karadeniz Eregli production facility in Zonguldak, by the Black Sea. The changes are intended to increase reliability and ease-of-operation at the site.
According to Honeywell, it will implement an Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) and two C300 controllers at Karadeniz Eregli. The PKS, it said, will give plant operators unprecedented control of the production process and improved decision making in the control room.
Operators will be able to access to more diagnostics information than before, while, the open design of the new system will make it easier for Erdemir to modify or extend in the future, added Honeywell, which is also to supply consultancy, installation, start-up and system training services at the site.
“This project is significant not just for the future of the Karadeniz Eregli plant but to our market competitiveness,” said Serdar Ertan, operations manager, Erdemir. “Honeywell’s technology is proven, their segment experience immensely strong, and their service and support package was reassuring.”
