Foundation Degree launched for polymer industry

London – Cogent and London Metropolitan University (LMU) have developed a new flexible Working Higher Foundation Degree in Polymer technology, which is aimed at providing flexible work-based routes to support workforce development in the polymer manufacturing and process industries.
The programme comprises 16 modules including: Product Design, Polymer Science and Technology, Introduction to Materials, Practical skills (1 week workshop at LMU), Polymer Processing, Materials Technology in Context, Quality Management including GMP, Decision Making for Organisations including BIT.
There is also a large work based- project providing the opportunity to put into practice some of the academic learning.
The foundation degree is being delivered via:
• Distance learning
• One intensive study block each year/level of study (five days in length)
• Preparation study for the work-based project
• Tutorial sessions on an informal basis throughout the course
• Available on a part-time basis, it is expected that the programme can be completed in three years
• Work-based learning can be tailored to meet employers’ needs and processes.
Students will be ideally qualified to Level three and above which includes: Advanced apprenticeships; Science based A-levels; Vocational qualifications in a related profession; and relevant experience (even without formal qualifications)
The cost is £400 per module or £6,400 for the full course, though there are 15 subsidised places are available for 50% of the full course fee.
