Process scrubber for Johnson Matthey plant

Clitheroe, UK – Johnson Matthey has recently installed a new manufacturing process at the Clitheroe works.
ACWA AIR was contracted to design, manufacture, test, install and commission a process scrubbing system for the catalysts facility.
The system comprises two absorber/scrubbers with associated equipment on a common skid. The system is fully automated and independently controlled through a SCADA system.
Heat of absorption of the feed gas in the first stage scrubber is removed by passing the recirculating scrubber liquor through a plate heat exchanger, using plant cooling water. The second stage scrubber further purifies the gas stream before it is returned to the process.
According to ACWA, precise temperature control is necessary in the recycle gas stream before reintroducing it to the catalyst production process.
