Investments in air compressors and new lighting will help United Biscuits meet its own challenging energy efficiency targets.
Food manufacturer United Biscuits (UB) recently raised its 2020 target to reduce carbon emissions by saving energy to 45% after it hit its initial target of 35% eight years early.
The firm says that kind of performance is great for its reputation in the food & drink trade, but presents quite a challenge to its engineering team in terms of constantly finding new cost-effective ways to save energy.
Over the last two years UB process engineers have been working with EDF Energy to find an extra 10% reduction in energy consumption through initiatives that recoup the investment required within two years.
