Connecting control systems to the boardroom is the final frontier, reports Louisa Hearn.
A tangle of conflicting technology standards and legacy equipment means much of the data generated by process plant control systems is lost before it ever reaches the eyes of the boardroom.
So is the utopian vision of control equipment speaking directly to business systems any closer to realisation?
“Control systems are not easily integrated with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems,” says Karthik Sundaram, industrial automation and process control analyst at Frost & Sullivan.
“It is an area that has been in discussion for a long time but it is still at the conceptual level.”
