University launches STEM initiative

The New Model in Technology and Engineering (NMiTE) university has launched an initiative to inspire students to consider a career in engineering.
NMiTE Connect is open to all schools and businesses in Herefordshire and is aimed at linking schools and businesses and to support teachers and students in the learning of science and engineering subjects, an NMiTE statement said.
The initiative was launched last week by former Lockheed Martin chief executive officer Norm Augustine.
“If we can create students who are passionate about science and engineering, and then use it to change the world we live in, NMiTE will have achieved what it set out to do,” Augustine said.
NMiTE university was officially unveiled during March and aims to attract more women into the industry.
It will achieve this by ensuring half its students and teaching staff are female.
“The planned New Model in Technology and Engineering university in Hereford represents a very positive step forward for UK engineering and education,” said Colin Brown, director of engineering at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), amid March’s launch.
