Plastic fears spark UK recall of children’s dairy snacks

Müller and Sainsbury’s have both recalled children’s dairy snacks over fears of plastic contamination, in separate incidents.
Müller’s recalled brand is the four-pack Muller Kids Corner Butterflies Strawberry yogurt, manufactured at its Market Drayton facility in Shropshire.
“The action is being taken because of the potential presence of a small puck shaped disc in one pot of yogurt from the batch,” the company said.
“The disc is pink in colour and measures 3cm by 1cm and is used to test systems on our production line which are in place to protect product quality.”

With the exception of the single pot which contains the disc, the company stressed that all other pots from the batch were unaffected and safe to eat.
According to the company, the recall is a precautionary measure, with no other yoghurt or dessert products known to be affected.
The Sainsbury’s recall was for its own-brand Strawberry Fromage Frais Pouches.
“It has been brought to our attention that a small number of pouches of the above product may contain pieces of blue plastic,” the retailer said.
“As a precautionary measure, we are asking all customers who have bought this product to return them to their nearest Sainsbury’s store, where they will receive a full refund.”
Sainsbury’s said no other products or date codes had been affected by the issue.
In March, food group Mars has issued a Europe-wide recall of some of its chocolate products, following the discovery of plastic in a confectionary item.
