Automation specialists SMC has produced stopper cylinders for situations where a conveyor belt system is required, but there is no convenient compressed air supply.
The company says its Series LEBH-X3 and LEBQ40-X31 ranges of electric stopper cylinders are simple to use, with no programming necessary, and require only one digital output for on/off control (the dual pinned M12 connector is plugged into an ASI unit or PLC). The power consumption is also low at five watts.
Suited for a range of stopper applications, the SMC recommends the LEBH-X3 series for heavy-duty use. Three model size options are available, transferring objects up to 400kgs, 520kgs and 800kgs, with maximum object transfer speeds of 40m/min.
The Series LEBH-X3 has been made with an adjustable shock absorber plus soft stop capabilities and the drag value can be changed using a simple dial.
The Series LEBQ40-X31 is designed to transfer lighter weights (up to 70 kgs) with maximum object speeds of 30m/min. These are adjustment free, although the drag value can still be altered.
Both series are available in resin or carbon steel and with the LEBH-3 the roller direction can be changed in 90° steps to ensure maximum flexibility.
Operation is via single acting spring extend, says the company, so if there is a power loss or control failure, the units will extend to stop loads safely, preventing accumulation or overload at the end of the conveyor.
