ABB handed Ferrybridge demolition contract
15 Dec 2016
Energy firm SSE has appointed ABB’s engineering and consultancy division to handle decommissioning and demolition activities at Ferrybridge ‘C’ power station.
The power station, located in West Yorkshire, was closed five years ahead of schedule this year after more than 50 years in service.
ABB has also been appointed as the project’s Construction Design and Management (CDM) prinicipal designers, following a competitive tender process.
Matthew Capstick, account manager for ABB’s engineering and consultancy group, said: “The size and scale of Ferrybridge Power Station, its strategic location near key infrastructure, and the continued presence of the multi-fuel ‘waste-to-energy’ plants on the site all contribute to this being a potentially challenging project.
“ABB will need to work closely with the client, the demolition contractor and stakeholders to ensure this project is managed correctly.”
Ferrybridge Multifuel 2 power station will be located alongside Ferrybridge Multifuel 1 (FM1), which is currently operational.
