British Safety Council honours 72 companies for excellence

Some of the biggest names in the global process industries are among a host of firms honoured for their commitment to promoting workplace safety standards.
The British Safety Council named a total of 72 winners of its Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour trophies for 2017.
Now in its 38th year, the Sword of Honour – awarded for for health and safety management excellence – went to 57 winners overall.
There were 15 winners of the Globe of Honour, presented for the seventh time to highlight firms for excellence in environmental management.
The council’s chief executive, Mike Robinson, said: “On behalf of the trustees and staff of the British Safety Council, I congratulate the winning organisations and their staff for their commitment to keeping their workplaces safe and healthy and minimising risks to the environment.”
All winners achieved a maximum five stars in the BSC independent audits in one or both categories, as well as demonstrating to an independent panel that they had a track record and culture of best practice.

Said Robinson: “They have not only achieved five stars in the British Safety Council’s independent health and safety and environmental audits, but they also demonstrated to an independent adjudication panel that they had a proven track record and culture of best practice in health and safety or environmental management.”
Special tribute was paid to 11 companies who secured wins in both categories. These include: Arya Sasol Polymer Company, Bahrain Petroleum Company, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Mount Anvil (Hampstead Manor), Mount Anvil Ltd (Royal Docks West), Qatargas Operating Company Limited, Commercial and Shipping Group, Shipping Department, TEVA UK Limited Castleford, Unipart Logistics Cowley, Unipart Logistics Limited Baginton A, Unipart Logistics Limited Baginton B and Unipart Logistics Ltd Honeybourne DC.
This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the British Safety Council.
