Cranfield and Boeing provide female engineers with a flying start
8 May 2019
Leading female engineers turned out in force to support Cranfield University’s interactive event to promote careers in the sector for school students.
Attendees had the opportunity to tour the university’s key sites including the Aerospace Integration Research Centre and the Cranfield Impact Centre – one of just three approved test centres in the world approved by Formula One ruling body, the FIA.
The event, titled Aim High, was designed to promote the forthcoming International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) 2019, which takes placed on 23 June.
Companies taking part on the day included Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, BAE Systems, Nissan, Unilever, Rolls-Royce and Anglian Water. Also present were representatives from Boeing UK – which, together with Cranfield, is sponsoring INWED this year.
Professor Lynette Ryals OBE, chief executive of Cranfield School of Management UK Ltd, said: “Through the Aim High event, we hoped to open up the world of engineering to young women.
“By engaging the students in practical activities and giving them the opportunity to interact with leading women in the field, we aim to inspire more young women to pursue careers in engineering.”
