IMechE boost for engineers graduating from the University of Northampton
9 Oct 2019
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) has confirmed it is re-accrediting the University of Northampton’s Engineering degrees.
Accreditation, which will now extend until 2023, applies to the university’s BSc Engineering, BEng Electromechanical Engineering, BEng Mechanical Engineering, MSc Engineering and MSc Lift Engineering courses.
For students this provides a substantial employment boost: recognising them as competent mechanical engineers but also ensuring access to potential jobs with companies who only accept graduates from accredited degree programmes.
Said head of engineering Jon Adams:
“It provides our engineering students an advantage in the jobs market and opens up a route to employment with some of the very best companies, which favour recruit graduates from IMechE-accredited degrees.”
IMechE inspectors praised a number of aspects of the engineering offering at the University.
These included the mathematics support offered to students, formal partnerships with engineering companies in Northamptonshire that offer industrial placements for students and the level of student engagement.
The dedication of academic staff was also commended, with inspectors praising staff availability for students and the tutors’ level of industrial experience which supports their teaching.
