Facilities in the chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas extraction and refining and pharmaceutical industries that monitor, control, and measure signals in hazardous areas now have an alarm solution that significantly reduces wiring, installation and maintenance costs.
The SPA2IS from Moore industries is a combination alarm trip and isolated transmitter which includes built-in intrinsically-safe (IS) field connections for current/voltage, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), and thermocouples, providing the necessary protection typically afforded by a galvanically isolated intrinsically safe barrier.
Since the SPA2IS doesn’t require separate IS barriers, wiring and maintenance costs are drastically reduced, says the company. These costs would otherwise be consumed by ancillary marshalling cabinets that would need to house bulk or custom power supplies, racks and possibly cabinet cooling equipment.
