IET launches unsung heroes engineering awards open to all
20 Sep 2022
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has issued a worldwide call for applications from teams whose work is combating key global challenges.
Its new Impact in Society Awards will celebrate critical work in engineering, science, technology and maths affecting three important areas: Sustainability and climate change; digital futures; and healthy lives.
IET president Sir Julian Young explained the aim of the new awards was twofold.
He explained: “These awards have been launched to celebrate the teams of ‘unsung heroes’, as well as truly celebrating the art of collaboration in engineering workplaces.
“We also want to improve the public’s understanding of the importance of engineering to society by highlighting exceptional teams solving the world’s problems, which in turn will help inspire the next generation of engineers and technicians.”
Entry is not limited to established engineering professionals. Multi and cross-disciplinary teams are eligible and can come from any industrial sector. They can also be based anywhere in the world, with no limit on team numbers and can include apprentices and early career technicians.
The winning team will be presented with a trophy at the Impact in Society Awards ceremony in Spring 2023.
The deadline for applications for the first event is 9 December 2022. For further details, click here.
